OUR VOW RENEWAL COUPLE

Mary and Dick Kohne Our story begins during World War II. In those days, we seldom had a date. So, my group of eight close women would get together at local bars and taverns to have a beer. At that time, if you took an empty glass jug to the bar, the bartender would fill it with draft beer for you to take home. On one memorable night, two of us went to one of our local bars, and left with the glass jug full of beer for the rest of our group to enjoy at home. My husband-to-be and his friend, who were on leave from serving in the war, were at that same bar. They decided to follow that “jug of beer” to see where it led. They were shocked when they discovered six more girls at home waiting for that jug! This is the story of how I met my husband. Our first date was a hayride. When his leave was over, we wrote to each other for the rest of the war. When he was discharged from the Navy, we decided it would be best if he attended college. It was a very long four years! We married before he started his last year of college. He graduated in June, and our first son was born in July. After that, we were off and running toward a long and beautiful life together in marriage. We have been married for 67 years, and although there have been ups and downs throughout, we have had a wonderful and blessed life together. We have six children (three daughters and three sons), 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. These days, our family gatherings are large and pretty chaotic, but we always say, “We sure have a beautiful family!” Our strong marriage and faith in one another have allowed us to move from one phase of life to the next with grace and a sense of humor. In some respects, we are renewing our marriage vows with each passing day.

IT’S OUR PLEASURE TO SERVE YOU …

EVENT RECAP

here comes the bride ... again Our first Vow Renewal Ceremony was a great success! Thank you to Dick and Mary Kohne for letting us plan and celebrate your special day with you and your family. We hope this day adds more memories to your 67 years of wedded bliss. Cheers! Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see all the memories made on this special day.

word from your executive director SPRINGIN’ INTO SEVERE WEATHER

As the warmer weather rolls in so do our chances for severe weather. Be weather aware by watching the local weather channels daily to stay on top of possible severe conditions. Another great way to stay weather aware is by purchasing a weather radio that will alert you if severe weather has been detected in our area. When possible we will also alert residents to severe weather conditions through our all-call system. So if you do not receive these calls and would like to, please let Carol know at the front desk. Remember ... a “watch” means the conditions are suitable for severe weather, and a “warning” means severe weather / tornado has been detected near our location.
